Why is Local Organic Produce More Expensive?

The farm never shuts down
Our farm operates 52 weeks of the year and almost 365 days! We've managed to shut it down for Christmas day (all staff are off, including our migrant workers for a 2 week period over Christmas!) but Ffarmer Ffrench will still come over to check on things!
Every day during the winter we need to check that all the furnaces are working in the greenhouses, the temperatures and humidity of the storage fridges are at the right levels, and no pipes or hoses are frozen! We have our maintenance friends on speed dial should anything not be working!
We'll continue to harvest (seedlings and leafy greens), weed, seed, water, wash, grade and package vegetables every week throughout the whole winter. We have lots of delicious roots available for your winter meals! German Butterball Potatoes will be available soon - they have an amazing buttery flavour, just as its name suggests - keep a lookout!
Have you tried Jerusalem Artichokes yet or sunchokes as some people call them? This inulin-rich veggie contains no other type of carbohydrate, which is perhaps why some call it “the potato of diabetics.” The sunflower tubers are also high in fiber and have more potassium than most other vegetables.
Recipe/Tips of the week
They are included in our Seasonal Roasting Vegetable Package, but if you prefer to try them out by themselves you can follow Chef Andrew's instructions for perfectly roasted Jerusalem Artichokes!
**Full Disclosure** Because of their high inulin content some people may have some discomfort digesting if they eat too many at once!
